The first session of the workshop begins with very revealing insights. You’ll learn to doubt your singular point of view as 'THE' way to run a small business. You'll learn about brain plasticity and arrested development, and we'll demonstrate scotomas, illusions and psychological blind-spots. This is a really fun session that demonstrates how entrepreneurs and small business owners have 'blind-spots' and functional 'limitations' which will kill your business.

Introduction

There's a supposed sign on a road to Alaska that reads "Choose your rut carefully - you'll be in it the next 200 miles" The same can be said for choosing a partner, a business niche and a location – especially since small business IS so personal.

Blind-Spots & Scotomas

Every normal mammalian eye has a scotoma in its field of vision, usually termed a "blind spot". Too bad this is also true in the psychological sense, as it makes us less than perfect when it comes to small business decision making.

Illusions

Imagine you see something right in front of you - like a car accident or a robbery. You explain it to the police. They imagine what you claim to have seen and write it in a report. Then they ask your small business partner or spouse. Uh-oh.

Brain Plasticity

Up to a few years ago, professionals maintained a belief that brains stopped developing at about age 6. That would account for all the children running around in 50 year old bodies. However, research on neuro-plasticity proves  that we 'CAN' literally change our minds, and as we learn to ‘change’, so too will our decisions which affect our small business and personal enterprise.
